The White River Project

Pentewan Valley Parish Council, with the support of St Austell Town Council, Treverbyn Parish Council, St Mewan Parish Council & St Ewe Parish Council have collaborated to develop a vision plan for the “White River” from its sources in Hensbarrow and Longstone Downs, running to the bay at Pentewan sands and funding from the Community Capacity Fund.

Alongside recovery of the river itself, there are significant opportunities to highlight and develop its heritage, economic activity, benefits to mental and physical wellbeing and the creation of new connections for wildlife and people.

The vision plan will be used as a communication and planning tool to inform short, medium and long-term enhancements and support future funding and investment decisions. It will be used to unlock the White River’s potential value with a specific focus on nature recovery, climate resilience, heritage, access and recreation.

The plan will identify discrete enhancements at a number of key locations, acting as focus sites, showing conceptual design opportunities and providing greater clarity on the scope, costs, time, risks and associated benefits.
