Neighbourhood Plan
Pentewan Parish Council is preparing a Neighbourhood Plan. On this page and the pages that follow, you can find out what a Neighbourhood Plan is, take part in its preparation, see the facts and figures behind it, and read and comment on the draft Plan when it is ready.
WHAT IS A NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN? Neighbourhood Planning allows people to come together to develop a plan for their area. The Neighbourhood Planning process is designed to give local people a say on local planning issues. This is because, when its adopted, the Plan must by law be taken into account by Cornwall Council when it decides on planning applications.
It also gives local people the opportunity to create a shared vision of how the Parish area should move forward over the next few years, covering issues such as:
- Tackling climate change
- Housing [including affordable housing]
- Business and Employment
- Transport and infrastructure
- Natural environment, landscape and Cultural Heritage.
Much of Pentewan Valley is in the Cornish National Landscape [formerly known as an 'area of outstanding natural beauty'], which has some of the most significant natural and historic environments in Cornwall, with diverse rural village communities which all have different needs and priorities.
The underlying aim of the Pentewan NDP is to help achieve sustainable growth and prosperity in the Parish. The Plan will have the potential to:
- Maximise affordable housing,
- Introduce a no second home policy,
- Influence design of new housing,
- Protect biodiversity and wildlife
- Protect our special landscape and villages
- Support business and help create new jobs,
